Not Over

Waiting For The Three Kings, okay maybe not. This was taken at the Puerto Rican Day Parade.

I know most of us are back at work starting the New Year. Well, not. us Puerto Ricans. Christmas ain’t over yet. January 6 is the Feast Of The Epiphany or as it is known to thousands of Puerto Ricans, Three Kings Day. The day when the 3 Wise Men finally reach the baby Jesus and offer their gifts. Growing up, the little boricua children would gather grass into a box. Not easy in the New York winter believe me. But somehow we did it. We would put the boxes under our bed as a gift of food for the Kings’ camels. In the morning there would be a gift in place of the grass which the camels supposedly had eaten and a gift was left in gratitude by the tree Kings.

On January 5, the 41st annual Three Kings Day Parade, hosted by El Museo Del Barrio will kick off at 11:00AM. The parade route begins on 106th Street and Lexington Avenue and ends on 115th Street and Park Avenue in NYC. I always make it a point to visit the parade and take some photos. Tradition.
