For the fourth year in a row I have volunteered (by my wife) to take portraits of the families participating in the Family Fun Day event for The Coalition For The Homeless in Newark, New Jersey. It was held on Saturday. It’s an annual event sponsored and run by the Be The Change organization led by Norma Bowe. Amazing and inspirational person and organization.
This year a lot of the families were hesitant to have their photos taken. Since I have seen many of the families previously I wondered if they were just getting tired of having their pictures taken or if the atmosphere promulgated by Donald Trump had something to do with it. The kids as always were more carefree and none more than a sassy group of girls who not only brashly asked for a group photo they also wanted a before and after with their face painting (done by my wife). The girls were lively and confident and really happy to be together and I couldn’t help liking them. They would be perfect in a Disneyesque TV show solving crimes or learning about life and growing up (you know the type of show.)

Another bright spot of the day was my son taking my Fuji X-E2 and documenting the event. He took a couple of hundred pictures with 89 of them being posted by the group. Wow.
