The End Of Pure Imagination

I just found out that one of may favorite actors has passed away. Gene Wilder was 83. I first saw him in “Young Frankenstein” when I was very young, but somehow I knew he was the most brilliant of that brilliant cast of actors in Mel Brooks’ best movie. He then when on to capture my heart and imagination in “Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory.” His singing was okay but the force of personality behind that singing was amazing. The song, “Pure Imagination” will always be one of my favorite songs. It is right up there with Judy Garland’s, “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”. Also of note in the movie is his speech at the end when Charlie tries to claim his prize and Wonka confronts him with his transgressions as a test. Then his grin and excitement when the boys passes the final test is pure movie magic.
