FOS 6 – Decoherence

Possible spread for FOS #6 – Decoherence

A photographic series evolves as you begin to understand what the images are saying. My ideas for FOS 6 have changed as have the working titles; Dead Flowers, Last Roll, Words Not Necessary to currently, Decoherence. The idea of decoherence was something I first applied to a series called, Personal Ecologies, back in 2012. It was also an exhibition at Soho Photo in New York City. But the idea  was placed upon the images as an after thought, as a way to make sense of the images.

This times I have been creating images and image pairs with this idea in mind. I am a great fan of the ideas of quantum mechanics. The math unfortunately eludes me. But I understand just enough to have it guide my image making. Basically, in the idea of decoherence we have a universal wave function that describes the probability of any thing being in a particular point in space. According to Quantum Mechanics things exist in a state of superposition. Everything has some probability of coming into existence. It is only  when we measure or observe a phenomenon that it then comes to be. All the other probabilities of that phenomenon existing in any other place and time collapse. What this actually means in the real world is a matter of debate. But this extremely simplified take on the idea of decoherence is now my guide for FOS 6.

Images already in existence will be edited and selected to better serve this idea and images to be will be created with this idea in mind.
