At The Temple Of Poseidon

Like most people, I go on Holiday every once in awhile to relax and experience new places. This year I took my family to Athens, Greece and the seaside town of Sounion. This popular destination is about 40 miles south of Athens and is famous for its Temple of Poseidon, perched dramatically on a cliff overlooking the Aegean Sea. My family and I arrived at the temple around sunset, a most dramatic time to view this historic site.

Like most everyone else I got busy taking photographs and as you would expect I took some of the usual tourist snapshots of the temple.

But, being a photographer for close to 40 years I was not totally satisfied with these images. They were great snapshots and I printed close to 60 of them to show to my friends and extended family. But as something I would hang on a wall, not really. For the past few months I have been experimenting with inverting the colors of photographs and also enhancing them a bit. My instagram page has a few examples.

This technique doesn’t work with all images but when it does it is rather eye catching I think. I’ll make another post talking about this work later. For comparison, below is the non-inverted image of the “At The Temple of Poseidon” photograph that opened this post.
