As I was saying in my last post, at my age I know what I won’t be accomplishing or attaining in my singular lifetime. Recognition by the photographic community has eluded me and so, being made of lesser things, I am selling a big part of my photo equipment and relegating my practice to small, hand held, pocketable cameras. Very much in the vain of Daido Moriyama whom I admire very much. Gone are the Nikon DSLRs and Phase One medium format cameras and lenses. My main cameras now are a Ricoh GR IIIx as well as a Fuji X-T5 with a small 27mm lens.
The image above was taken with the little Ricoh camera on my way into New York from New Jersey. I saw the scene, slipped my hand into my pocket, pointed the camera out of the train window, snap and voila! I like that the scene represents the edge of both New Jersey (foreground) and the edge of Manhattan (background). The edges are always more interesting and worthy of exploration. It’s basically an approach to New York, where I mainly photograph, aside from around my neighborhood in New Jersey.
A little known fact about me, I am a fan of IU (the Korean singer and actress). She has such a beautiful voice. Her music is sweet and pop filled. I am listening to her as I write this post.
